Interestingly enough, I spent most of the early part of the day parked at a McDonalds, lost somewhere in Rotterdam trying to work out why my satnav map of the Netherlands was not working. I spent the entire morning using their wifi to download maps that had disappeared from my Tom Tom App.

Lesson 2: Check, double check and triple check all vitally important technology!

With the issues finally resolved I arrived in Schengen later than planned but did manage to do a quick tour of the European Museum. What a historically significant place Schengen is. A symbolic location on the shared borders of Luxembourg, France and Germany, it was where all the Schengen Area treaties to remove border controls were agreed and signed. Apparently it was one of the most violently fought areas in the second world war. Skirting the shores, it's also part of the Moselle River wine producing region.

I was sad to see this display.
